Alliance of Turkic News Agencies (ATNA) Established in Istanbul

Alliance of Turkic News Agencies (ATNA) was also officially founded.

A historic event took place in Bakırkoy as news agencies from Turkic countries gathered for the Turkic News Agencies Media Summit, hosted by Anadolu Agency (AA). The summit marked the official founding of the Alliance of Turkic News Agencies (ATNA) and featured a panel discussion on the “New Agendas of News Agency Journalism in the Turkic World.”

The panel titled “Future Vision of the Turkic World: New Areas of Cooperation” took place on Monday at the “Turkic News Agencies Media Summit” event organized by Anadolu Agency (AA) at a hotel in Bakırkoy. During the event, the union was established through the signing of agreements, and its first general assembly meeting was held.

The panel, moderated by Yusuf Ozhan, Deputy Director-General and Editor-in-Chief of Anadolu Ajansı, focused on pressing issues in journalism. Participants emphasized the importance of combating disinformation and the need for special initiatives to foster mutual understanding among Turkic nations.

Uniting Turkish News Agencies

Vugar Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC), expressed his belief that Turkish news agencies should unite and grow stronger. He highlighted the rapid spread of fake news, particularly on social media, and stressed the necessity for concrete cooperation among Turkish agencies to combat this issue. Aliyev also acknowledged Anadolu’s support during the Karabakh War, emphasizing their role in both information dissemination and countering Armenian propaganda.

Mederbek Shermetaliev, Director-General of Kyrgyzstan National News Agency (Kabar), considered the summit as a new beginning. He suggested that the new union should not only focus on fighting disinformation but also delve into the culture and history of other Turkic nations. While sharing common languages and religion, Shermetaliev noted that each people has its own unique civilization.

Bridging Differences

Bekzat Zhussupov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kazakhstan’s Qazcontent, emphasized the historical ties between Kazakhstan and Türkiye and expressed gratitude to Anadolu Ajansı for hosting the summit. He highlighted the role of media collaboration in bridging differences among Turkic countries. Zhussupov also pointed out the growing exchange of content between national television channels and stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in the era of new media and information. He mentioned Kazakhstan’s “stop fake” project to ensure news accuracy and advocated for increased cooperation in various fields. Abdisait Kuchimov, Director-General of Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA), highlighted the rapid spread of misinformation and its negative impact, emphasizing the importance of accurate and timely information delivery. Kuchimov saw the newly formed alliance, ATNA, as a significant cooperation agreement among Turkic states and expressed the desire for further media cooperation, suggesting that native languages be used at the next summit.

Formation of the Alliance of Turkic News Agencies (ATNA) and Its Vision

The summit marked the official establishment of the Alliance of Turkic News Agencies (ATNA) with representatives from five agencies signing the official document. Serdar Karagoz, President & CEO of Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency, was elected as the first-term president, pledging to build a strong and functional organization that emphasizes collaboration, disinformation combat, and content sharing. ATNA aims to become an influential alliance among world news agencies by creating a structured organization, including a logo and a website, and fostering mutual education and cooperation. This event represents a significant step in strengthening ties among Turkic News Agencies and promoting accurate and swift information exchange within the Turkish world, with a focus on unity, shared objectives, and addressing modern media challenges.
